Symptoms And Causes Of Sciatica

Symptoms And Causes Of Sciatica

They Include Numbness, Pain, A Burning Sensation, And Leg Muscle Weakness

The sciatic nerve is the largest one in the body, going from each side of the spine to the feet. It controls the movement in the back of the knees and the lower legs and also provides sensation to the back of the thighs, lower legs, and soles of the feet. If the sciatic nerve is compressed, it will result in pain, numbness, and problems in controlling the leg muscles. The compression of the sciatic nerve can be caused by a herniated disk, in which the disk that separates the vertebrae bulges against the nerve. Other causes are a spinal bone spur or spinal stenosis, in which the separation between the spaces in the spine is narrowed. Sciatica can result in several sensations, such as numbness, burning, an intense pain, or perception of electric shocks. It can be treated with pain relievers, muscle relaxants, with ice packs, or stretching. However, it might require surgery if there the pin or weakness worsens, or if there is a loss of bladder control. More details click here.
